On December 31, 2013, Joanne Thornley retired as our Church Secretary after 41 years of devoted service to Trinity Lutheran Church.
When calling Trinity Lutheran Church, the first voice you were likely to hear was that of Joanne. A life-long resident of the local area, Joanne began her ministry at Trinity in July of 1972. She regarded working here as a calling and not a job.
Joanne was involved in virtually every aspect of the church. She coordinated the information for weddings, baptisms, funerals, new members, transfers and new confirmands. She also developed the schedules and provided information to our many volunteers such as the lay readers, communion assistants and greeters to name a few.
When reading the Sunday service bulletin or browsing through the Monthly Newsletter, you were looking at her work. Joanne also provided current information to the webmaster so that our church website was always up to date.
According to Joanne, she had also been known to “unclog toilets, fix printing machines, and scare salesmen.”
As you can see, our Church Secretary was very busy in the background keeping all the church business and activities running smoothly for the congregation.
If all of her duties and accomplishments had been listed here, the information would probably run off this page!
However, she found her work very rewarding and gave Pastor Andy and his predecessors her fullest support.
Joanne and Russ have been happily married for 51 years, and have one married daughter and a 21-year-old granddaughter. In her “spare time” she enjoys ballet and jazz dance classes.
Before departing, Joanne spent time with our new Church Secretary, Janet Lipski helping her to learn about the many specific aspects of Trinity Runnemede and introducing her to the key people here.
Janet has prior experience working as a church secretary and her talents have afforded us a smooth transition.
Now that Joanne and Russ have moved to Florida, we may not see much of her, but her personal touch will remain behind on many aspects of Trinity Church.
We all wish you the very best and sincerely thank you!
